Eleven Year Old Haitian Boy with Arm Mass
This 11 year old boy came into the Emergency Department today here in southern Haiti.
The mass on his arm started growing in August.
It is most likely a sarcoma. (Update: Nov. 4, 2010--the biopsy came back as leiomyoma which is a benign soft tissue tumor.)
This is exactly why I named this blog "Dying in Haiti" five years ago.
The world saw Haiti for the first time on January 12, 2010 and Haiti was indeed dying.
But this is the "kind of stuff" that is seen everyday in downstream Haiti--even before the earthquake.
There can be no peace in Haiti without justice. And this little boy is not seeing justice. (Update: Nov. 4, 2010--This boy is having his arm amputated today just below his left shoulder for a benign tumor that became so large that his arm cannot be saved.)
